Moventis attends ‘Mobilidada 2.5’ conference on the role of data in Catalan mobility | Moventis

The event focused on the role of data for the future of mobility and was attended by leading stakeholders to build key synergies for the future in the sector.

During the course of the event, which was held for the second time this year, the expert from Moventis took part in a round table discussion entitled ‘Paving the way: data to address the challenges of the future’, for which the other participants were Josep Garcia Alemany, Operations Director at Rodalies; Àlia Ramellini, Head of Mobility and Road Safety Projects at INTRA; and Eva Romagosa, Co-founder & CSO of BusUp. The discussion was moderated by Oriol Juncadella, Director of FGC Operadora.

In his talk, Jordi Castells valued “the importance of reliable, robust and traceable data”, insisting that knowing the source and ensuring the data are not biased in any way is crucial to statistically sound information. He went on to explain that data must be correctly tagged and classified in a way similar to that which allows the integration of artificial intelligence systems.

Jordi Castells also highlighted the importance of “offering user-targeted and real-time information”. In this regard, he underlined the value of CEGIM, the Mobility Information Management Centre (CGIM) overseen by Moventis, which centralises both statistical data on routes and dynamic information about mobility problems throughout Catalonia, and coordinates their distribution to operators so as to guarantee a sound and reliable service.

Furthermore, during the event held at the UPF Barcelona School of Management, he also said that the ideal situation would be “to have origin-destination matrices based on user preferences that reflect information on how people actually need to travel”. He added that this “would enable bus lines to be better redefined and mobility to be more flexibly adapted to real needs”.

The ‘Mobilidada 2.5’ conference provided an essential opportunity to discuss sustainable mobility challenges in Catalonia. It was unquestionably a huge privilege for Moventis to share an evening with major stakeholders from the sector, including authorities, operators and technology companies, with a shared goal of reflecting on data collection as an indispensable tool for collective transport.
