The 9th edition of the TRAM Barcelona Open was officially presented at the Barcelona Royal Tennis Club during the Banc Sabadell Barcelona Open. The international wheelchair tennis tournament returns to the courts at the Barcelona Royal Polo Club from 27 to 30 May, consolidating itself as one of the most important events in adapted sport worldwide.
Moventis, the collective mobility division of the Moventia group, is once again supporting the TRAM Barcelona Open as main sponsor and strategic partner for accessible mobility. This partnership boosts the commitment from the company to adapted mobility and to its support for initiatives that promote social inclusion through sport.
This collaboration also forms part of the renewed partnership between Moventia and the Cruyff Foundation, which is aimed at promoting sport as a tool for social transformation and the promotion of equal opportunities, and was officially signed at the start of the year during a ceremony led by Silvia Martí, Corporate Vice-President of Moventia and Pati Roura, Director of the Cruyff Foundation.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Councillor for Sports of Barcelona City Council, David Escudé; Pati Roura; the Managing Director of TRAM Barcelona, Humberto López; the Secretary-General of the Department of Sports of the Regional Government of Catalonia, Abel Garcia; the Director of the TRAM Barcelona Open tournament, Jose Coronado; the tournament ambassador, Alex Corretja; the President of the Catalan Tennis Federation, Jordi Tamayo; and the Sports Director of the Spanish Tennis Federation, Javier Soler. Moventis was represented by Ana Gil, Head of Marketing.
The sporting appeal of this outstanding edition—given confirmation that the TOP 10 players will compete in both the men’s and women’s competitions—ensures an exceptional level of quality for the tournament this year. The competition will also serve as a final trial by fire and the preferred preparatory event on clay ahead of the Roland Garros.
A historic category promotion
The big news in 2026 is the promotion of the tournament into the ITF1000 category (previously called the Super Series) of the International Tennis Federation. That milestone makes this the only tournament at this level in the country and positions it as the best tournament in the world outside of the Grand Slams. The organisers insist that this new distinction confirms Barcelona as a global benchmark in the organisation of premium sports events.
More than sport
Beyond the competition, the TRAM Barcelona Open maintains a strong commitment to society. This year, the tournament will host a commemorative ceremony on Tuesday, 26 May, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of wheelchair tennis. Various workshops, exhibitions and talks will be organised in schools alongside the event to promote such values as overcoming adversity and equal opportunities among young people.
Free tickets and television broadcast
As usual, anyone will be able to attend the tournament. Tickets are free and can be booked now via the official website. Anyone unable to attend the competition in person will be able to follow developments live via the official tournament app. Furthermore, in other big news, the men’s semi-finals and the singles finals on Saturday, 30 May, will be broadcast on television for the first time this year.
