Through its Moventis Carrilets Turístics operator, Moventis is once again running its popular tourist trains during the Christmas 2024 season in various towns around Catalonia. Designed for families and visitors to enjoy over Christmas in combination with the commercial promotion of various neighbourhoods and retailer associations, this service will be available in strategic locations to offer festive, sustainable and accessible transport during the Christmas festivities.
Service locations and dates
The tourist trains will operate over Christmas in 16 locations throughout Catalonia.
In Barcelona city, they will be found in such shopping areas and neighbourhoods as Sagrada Familia, Sant Martí, Sant Andreu, Sant Antoni, Fabra i Puig – Virrei Amat and Port Olímpic.
In Terrassa, families will be able to enjoy this service from two vehicles: the first in the city centre; and the second will operate on different dates and in different neighbourhoods.
In Sabadell, the newly built fully electric and environmentally friendly tourist train will operate around the city centre to cover various neighbourhoods and shopping areas from 16 December.
In turn the Sitges tourist train will run every afternoon on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in December.
Finally, the people of Barberà del Vallès will be able to enjoy this activity with departures from Plaza de la Vila on Avenida Dr. Moragas between 23 December and 6 January.
Furthermore, the vehicles will also operate at Christmas fairs in the Balearic Islands, where Moventis Carrilets Turístics offers an important service not only at Christmas but also throughout the summer season.
The local council authorities and retailer associations of the towns where these tourist trains will operate are fully supportive of the family and festive public transport service run by Moventis, applauding the sustainable and collective mobility purpose of this mode of transport at a time of year when the use of private vehicles is more common.
This Christmas mobility service began on Wednesday, 4 December 2024, in the centre of Terrassa and will be steadily expanded to other locations in various parts of Catalonia. The roll-out by Moventia of this initiative represents one of the most ambitious Christmas collective mobility operations ever undertaken. Furthermore, the company will also be involved in the Three Kings Parades of nine towns around Catalonia, as well as another three in the Balearic Islands, in line with its social and cultural purpose.
A commitment to sustainability
One important fact about the Christmas tourist train service is that Moventis Carrilets Turístics has implemented a sustainable service model by operating three new electric vehicles in such towns as Terrassa, Sabadell and the Port Olímpic area of Barcelona; a commitment that strengthens the group’s sustainability values. Furthermore, two new hybrid vehicles will be introduced for this Christmas season: one in Terrassa and another in Barberà del Vallès. In short, these tourist trains will not only encourage responsible mobility and foster a sustainable model via the ambitious eco-friendly commitment but will also offer a unique experience for kids and adults alike, creating a festive family Christmas atmosphere on the streets during one of the most special times of the year.
